London open breakout with retest

Trade the first directional expansion after Frankfurt/London liquidity builds, only when a contested level is re-tested cleanly.

Typical timeframe
M15–H1 · ~2–6 hours overlap window
Risk profile
Medium-high (slippage & false breaks)

The idea is that major London participation often produces a directional push once overnight ranges compress. Retail edges come from refusing to chase the first spike: you map the breakout level, wait for participation to prove itself, then require a pullback that holds—or fails quickly so you discard the idea.

This playbook is discretionary. News calendars and fixed-date events can invalidate the volatility profile in minutes, so the checklist below is deliberately conservative.

Execution checklist

  1. Mark Asia session high/low and avoid fading the midpoint chop without a catalyst.
  2. Wait for London to print a breakout with follow-through—not a single spike that dies in three candles.
  3. Enter only on retest acceptance (or shallow failure with clear invalidation beyond the breakout level).
  4. Size down when spreads widen ahead of Tier-1 prints; flat if your broker shows abnormal gaps.
